Bio

In the life and studio, Canadian-born and Toronto-based artist Stacey MacNevin was born with expression and creativity in her DNA, her ancestry steeped with a diverse and rich cultural and creative history.

Her diverse and prolific body of work consists of mostly large-scale  and vastly unique paintings,

Her relationship with colour can only be described as an experimental love affair with no end. A love of the tactile and intentionally evoking haptic sensations, Stacey is committed to infusing her work with rich textures, both visually and physically with her dexterous abstract strokes and fearless use of colour.

Using a variety of  traditional and non-traditional mediums, natural forms,  serve as a key component to her need for freedom in her work. Her current practice explores ideas of freedom and the roles that chaos and order play in interpreting one’s reality. She invites the audience to consider their own relationship to these concepts by presenting strong visual statements.

“I have an insatiable desire to continue to find new ways of exploring the world and my immense love for it. My art is like me, never the same way twice and it is always embracing interconnectedness.”

Although her practice seeks to distill forms into their visual essence (colour), recurring motifs include the circular and eye forms, the sensual and erotic and the feminine energy all blend with her great reverence for the narrative, poetry, collective mythologies and music to create eye-catching visual stories that vibrate with an energetic presence.

Stacey’s work is aggressive in its abundance of vibrant hues, obsessively optimistic, and imbued with a sense of purpose. Her work is for lovers of life not just of art. Like all visionaries, she is building a new model for creators and those who love them with a new model of gallery and studio art space, seeking to create a new language of art and artists, one that is hopeful, inclusive and unique.
